What's troubling about the Pentagon's plan for Yemen


The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the U.S. military's proposed 1.2 billion dollar plan for military aid to Yemen. This amount would be spread over 5 years and is a response to the fear of Al Qaeda's growing strength in Yemen.

The Pentagon's proposal also reveals a troubling lack of balance in U.S. national security priorities. For while this new spending talk is ongoing, the UN World Food Programme's (WFP) relief operation has suffered from lack of international donations. Even a recent U.S. donation of 13 million leaves WFP with about a 53% shortfall in funding for 2010.
