Trick or Friendship Train to fight global hunger

Halloween was quite a learning experience for students at Chico Central School in California. It was 1947 and a 7th grade class in the school came up with an idea. They said, "let's change the age-old expression 'trick or treat' to 'trick or Friendship Train.' "

Why? At that time Americans were starting a collection of food to help starving people in Europe after World War II. The Friendship Train was kicking off a nationwide journey to pick up the food. Instead of collecting candy, the students dedicated their Halloween night to fighting hunger abroad. Food from the Friendship Train and other aid programs offered a foundation on which to rebuild Europe.
