Humanitarian efforts needed

After World War II, Americans rallied to fight the famine threatening millions of people in Europe and Asia. Catholic Relief Services (CRS), was one of those answering the call to save lives. Today, CRS and other aid agencies are again trying to save lives – this time in East Africa – as starvation threatens over 11 million.

Famine has struck parts of Somalia, forcing a huge flow of refugees into neighboring countries. Laura Sheahen of CRS just visited one of the refugee camps. She says, “Almost every refugee I spoke to had a horror story about the long walk from Somalia to Kenya….I met a woman whose four-year-old son was shot by militants because they wanted the family’s goats.”
