My Cincinnati Enquirer Oped on Summer Feeding

We don’t often hear stories of Democrats and Republicans agreeing on an issue. In an election year we might not expect to hear any.

But Ohio’s two senators, Republican Rob Portman and Democrat Sherrod Brown, have recently signed on to co-sponsor legislation to fight child hunger in America. It’s called the Hunger Free Summer for Kids Act.

Congress can unite over food

It seems like Democrats and Republicans never agree on anything. But think again. They are finding common ground over food. And it could make a huge difference for America.

When Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) recently signed on to the Hunger Free Summer for Kids Act of 2015, he found allies from across the aisle. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) joined him. So did Sens. John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.). From his party Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) were among the first to join Brown.

Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) yesterday announced co-sponsorship of the Hunger Free Summer for Kids Act. This legislation would tackle the massive summer feeding crisis in America.

Feeding America supports the Stop Child Summer Hunger Act

Feeding America says it strongly supports new legislation to end the summer hunger crisis. The Stop Child Summer Hunger Act of 2015 would provide an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card to low-income families.
