The United Nations World Food Programme, UNICEF and the International Red Cross (ICRC) are among the agencies that are providing aid to civilians caught in the violence in Kyrgyzstan.
Fighting between the Kyrgyz and Uzbek populations, mainly in the city of Osh, has forced tens of thousands to flee Kyrgyzstan into the neighboring country of Uzbekistan. The charity UNICEF reports that 90 percent of the refugees are children, women and the elderly. UNICEF is bringing tents, clothing and medical supplies.
