WFP, Yemen Launch Emergency Operation

An emergency operation is underway to bring hunger relief to impoverished families in Yemen. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) and Yemen's Ministry of Education are undertaking the mission in five governorates where people struggle to access basic foods.

There are 800,000 Yemenis receiving the food distribution which will include a 50kg bag of wheat flour. These beneficiaries are feeling the crush of high food prices. WFP says just buying bread "requires them to spend 35 percent of their already meager incomes. Due to poor and limited diet, beneficiaries suffer from an alarming 500 kilo-calorie gap in nutritional needs."
